I can only advise to think hard about what and how you want to
backup/store and to write a script accordingly, perhaps with a specific
directory where all the stuff you want to take accumulates.

I agree with Hal here, I actually _have_ a CD-RW to which I have written
~100 times. The crucial thing here is to take care of your baby. I
always kept it clean and it went directly jewel case => cd-writer =>
jewel case. I didn't notice any problems.
