I frequently use synaptic on two systems, running Debian sarge and

both that the toolbar now has reappeared in synaptic (there's been some
postings on that problem before) but when trying to install a package
which brings up the window telling me it will install other "depend"
packages, closing that window with either "OK" or "cancel" will
completely knock me out of my session and immediately bring up the kde
log-in screen.
Has anyone else found this or is my problem local? Any workaround? It
limits usefulness of synaptic greatly.
I've also noticed on a couple other new applications I've been trying out
have the same trouble of either knocking me immediately out of a session
or the application just terminates itself.

I also use synaptic, most recent (yesterday) Sarge and kernel 2.4.29.
But I don't see that synaptic behavior.
Can you post a test case that fails then I will try to do that and post
the results.

Maybe it is the combination of settings in my system which shows up the
problem. I relate it to probably the library problem which took out the
toolbar icons for the past month or so ... since suddenly the toolbar icons
are back and now this problem I have.
Test case: I just tried the very first one I found in the "all" category...
"3dchess". Clicked on mark for install, then the window comes up telling me
it will also install "xaw3dg". If I click on the "X" in upper right corner
of window to close window without action, all is well. But clicking on
either "Mark" or "Cancel" takes me completely out of synaptic. (At times
before it knocked me out of the session and back to login screen.)
By the way, how do you start up synaptic?
