tvcard sound: xawtv volume balance? driver problems?

Hi,

In xawtv I *only* get sound on the right speaker.
I don't have this problem in other programs; XMMS gives me sound on five
speakers (as it should). When I play DVDs in xine all six speakers work (as
it should).

Is there a way to adjust the volume balance in xawtv?

Is this a driver problem?
Is this related to the order the drivers are loaded?
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/12/msg01841.html

------------------------
# cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Bt878 ]: Bt87x - Brooktree Bt878
                     Brooktree Bt878 at 0xe4001000, irq 201
------------------------
Does this mean the bttv driver is loaded before the sound card driver?

I found this info page on ALSA in debian:
http://wiki.debian.net/index.cgi?ALSA

I find it is confusing... when it comes to setting the load order.
How is the driver load order set (if that is the problem)?

Thanks,
Michael
