I tried dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 with good parameters but still have the same problem with kdm.
What does the keyboard section in you /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 look like? Mine is
Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "keyboard" #Driver "kbd" Option "CoreKeyboard" Option "XkbRules" "xfree86" Option "XkbModel" "pc102" Option "XkbLayout" "be" EndSection Especially the line with "XkbLayout" is important to get AZERTY.FYI, the Belgian Howto (http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Belgian-HOWTO/) contains lots of information on how to configure Linux in Belgium. It's not Debian-specific though.
