dpi is equal in both cases:
$ xdpyinfo | grep "dots per inch"
 resolution:    81x81 dots per inch

It is "100" in /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc

and nothing about dpi in Xservers:
$ cat /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xservers
:0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 -audit 0

Anyway an issue is only in XFCE4 (i tryed KDE, GNOME as well).
