Hm. If you're correct, a proper bug about the issue needs to be filed and something needs to be done to handle it. I guess the bug would be filed with the kernel? And I suppose a patch is in order? I don't have enough technical knowledge to follow this kind of thing up, but it would be nice if someone would! I can't really afford new hardware at this point...though I am tempted. Thanks for your help!

There seems to be an issue with Cyberdrive units. In my case I spent three weeks deep inside the kernel debugging what was happening, and discovered it was raising spurious interrupts after the end of a successful transfer. Normally this was when the driver was into the next command, and as such started throwing up errors of the sort that you have.

In the end I threw the drive away and switched to another make (Sony in my case).
