Re: NIS setup

Sometime in January Daniel L. Miller assaulted the keyboard and produced:

| Almost from "go". I can install the nis packages on my server and
| clients. One item that doesn't appear documented - except on some
| websites - is the need to change settings in /etc/default/nis. So I did
| - the server is set to "master", and client=false, and the clients set
| appropriately as well.

I seem to remember having that problem.

| But ypbind, run locally or on clients, is unable to bind to the server.

I believe you cannot run it locally (on the server) because of the setting
client=false in /etc/default/nis. Try changing this to true to enable
ypbind on the server. This way you can try out the nis stuff on the server
first. Once we get that working we can work on the other machines.

Do the log files /var/log/{messages|syslog|daemon.log} give you any
information?

| I've set the ypserv.securenets with my local subnet.

What does this look like?

Just to cover all of the bases, is your /etc/defaultdomain set
appropriately?
