[linux.debian.user] problem with t tulip cards in one box
I am attempting to upgrade my old redhat 7.3 gateway to debian and am
running into a problem with the backup gateway I am trying to install in
the interim.
I have a box with 2 cards that both use the tulip driver. One is a
lite-on pnic-II and the other is a ADMtek comet according to
/var/log/messages. According to lspci they are a lite-on LNE100tx and a
linksys NC100. I am using a brand new sarge install with the d-i rc2
and the 2.6.8 kernel.
eth0 was configured at install to be static. eth1 was not configured.
If I change /etc/network/interfaces to give eth1 an internal network
address, it comes up fine and can be pinged. If I unplug the current
gateway from the cable modem and plug eth1 into it then set eth1 to
dhcp, bringing up the interface fails with

Exiting.
Failed to bring up eth1.
As you can tell from the version linux running on my gateway, it has
been a long time since I have setup 2 nics in one machine and had to
configure dhcp, but I honestly don't remember having to do much the last
time.
Thanks for your help.
