sid - udev, cdsymlinks.sh and kernel module cdrom

Have no cdrom info in /dev. Have a CD burner as primary on second IDE and a CD-ROM
as secondary.

I see in /etc/udev/scripts a script for cdsymlinks - this reads
/proc/sys/dev/cdrom/info.

Have no /proc/sys/dev/cdrom - a little googling suggests that this
needs a modprobe cdrom and this does create the cdrom directory - but
the info file reads:

CD-ROM information, Id: cdrom.c 3.20 2003/12/17

I know I can hard code the stuff in udev - but I'd like to get the
cdrom info stuff to work.

I guess I have two options - IDE or ide-scsi - I'm not sure what to
prefer here - I'd like to be able to use grip, xcdroast and to mount
iso9660. What's recommended with udev? I do want to keep udev - apart
from the CDs it's working just fine - even with lots of odd USB
devices etc.
