I too have this problem. My flashdisk works under 2.6.6. So you can try that. I tried the latest kernel 2.6.9 from debian unstable. As soon as I plugged in the disk, the machine froze. Thankfully, unplugging it brought back the machine to life. Compiled my own kernel (2.6.9). The flash disk worked well. No problems. But, nvidia drivers do not install. Googling for that showed similar problems faced by many and solution does not seem to be there. Applying ck patch also did not help. So, for me it is back to either 2.6.6 or 2.4.x.
