The safest bet is trying to use the Vesa framebuffer support, the only
drawback is the vertical resolution stuck at 60 Hz. I don't have at
hand the list of code to choose the resolution, anyway try adding
"vga=791" in the kernel boot options to have 1024x768 (IIRC).
