Have a look at http://www.fokus.gmd.de/research/cc/glone/employees/joerg.schilling/private/man/README/README.ATAPI It explains the DMA warnings (I get them too on my 2.6.7).However, you may try to use the new ATAPI interface in 2.6 giving cdrecord a dev argument like
dev=/dev/hdcThis works for me, though there are some cdrecord warnings about the /dev/... naming scheme being unsupported.
