Re: Sound card troubles



I am no expert but I think most programs use /dev/dsp
and I do not think alsa creates this device, only oss 
does.  Don't ask me why??  Maybe alsaplay or mplayer don't
need /dev/dsp but ogg123 and mpg123 do (and maybe mplayer as
well, I don't remember).  But, for most people I think 
oss emulation is necessary and required to play sound.

I would be curious if anyone reading DOES NOT have oss
emulation and if so, what kink of card do you have and
what kind of sounds do you play?
