WTH? Modconf can be very useful, especially for newer sysadmins. It's nice to be able to just use a menu to go through and see what modules work/fail to install, especially if you're not sure what module(s) is/are needed for some hardware. Run modconf on one terminal and a prompt on another, and you can check different drivers (like network cards) to see if they work or not and adjust accordingly. This is easier than listing the directory and trying modules one by one, even with tab completion.
