Hi, I'm about to buy a new motherboard. Can anyone recommend a board that is known to work well with free software drivers. I just don't want to buy another board and find myself disabling most of the features as they don't work under Linux.
I wanted a new mobo for my Athlon 1.4 CPU. I bought a Gigabyte GA-7S748-L. It's based on the SiS 748 chipset. Lan is S900, has worked for years.Sound is detected by I810 driver, but I've not plugged speakers in to see what happens. USB works _but_ the interfaces on the back panel are USB1. The third interface is USB2 and I get 20 Mbytes/sec of a USB2 laptop drive.
No on-board video. This is a _cheap_ board, has five PCI slots, suppoers AGP4x and 8x cards. Supports XPs to 3200+ or so. Check website. I'm happy with this board, it does all I want it to.
I've read that the MSI S754 (A64) board works well. -- Cheers John -- spambait 1aaaaaaa@computerdatasafe.com.au Z1aaaaaaa@computerdatasafe.com.au Tourist pics http://portgeographe.environmentaldisasters.cds.merseine.nu/
