Re: Motherboard recommendation?

Hi,

I'm about to buy a new motherboard. Can anyone recommend a board that is
known to work well with free software drivers. I just don't want to buy
another board and find myself disabling most of the features as they
don't work under Linux.

I wanted a new mobo for my Athlon 1.4 CPU. I bought a Gigabyte GA-7S748-L.
It's based on the SiS 748 chipset.
Lan is S900, has worked for years.
Sound is detected by I810 driver, but I've not plugged speakers in to see what happens. USB works _but_ the interfaces on the back panel are USB1. The third interface is USB2 and I get 20 Mbytes/sec of a USB2 laptop drive.
No on-board video.

This is a _cheap_ board, has five PCI slots, suppoers AGP4x and 8x cards. Supports XPs to 3200+ or so. Check website. I'm happy with this board, it does all I want it to.

I've read that the MSI S754 (A64) board works well.
