Re: 3 gigs enough?

I bought a nice little laptop off ebay... Its got a 3 gig hd. All I want
to do is have developement packages on, X windows, probably run
Eclipse(where do i get that from anyway??? ), surf web, get email,
listen to winamp radio and write scripts. 366mhz is the speed of the
processor. Will the hd be too small? Will the processor slow me down? I
will not be ripping mp3s, I will not be playing games. Just coding and
basic internet useage. Any opinions?
On my test machine (Celeron 600 mhz, 512 MB) I have the latest Knoppix
3.4 (which is a sort of debian) and it uses 2.5 GB. Included are a lot
of huge packages like Open Office, Mozilla, KDE, multimedia stuff etc.
I think, you do not need 3 graphical browsers, 3 office suites, 12
graphical editors etc. I would estimate that 1.5 GB can be enough for
the beginning. You need space for /temp, /home and swap also. 366 mhz is
maybe a little bit slow, but I remember even KDE with Netscape running
on 166 mhz, 1.2 GB and 96 MB very nice.
