Fixing it without a computer is problematic at best <g>. Even waiting for a fix (go without a computer for a few days?) doesn't seem feasible as loading the fix requires a running computer.
In the worst case scenario, run off a Knoppix CD for a couple of days until the problem gets fixed (although if the problem is that severe, other people are probably aware of it and a fix will be forthcoming in hours instead of days).
