Problem with 2.6 initrd kernel

I compiled kernel-2.6.5 from the source on backports.org using
kernel-package and with the --initrd flag

It compiles fine, but when I go to install the .deb package, I get
the following error. Anyone know what I'm missing?

jw@hpesbjw:/usr/src$ sudo dpkg -i
./kernel-image-2.6.5-686-smp-mpt-64g-1_1.0.svtc_i386.deb
