thats only if you have lots of small messages. If your fs has blocks size 512b then it should be no problem at all :) But year, fs with blocks size 4KB and lets say 10000 mails each 4.1KB -- mbox woudl be ~41MB, whilst Maildir is now ~80MB... But anyway Maildir gives you great reliability (mail is never lost), search &etc operations are faster....
