Hi Charles,
I have an old 712/80 Mhz here and it's working with 128 MB, but the X-System
is a pain in the ass to install (forgive my $%&! Language :-)
The problem is that the packages have unmet dependencies, broken links.
Whatever might cause this, I had trouble to use tasksel to install desktop
system and x-windows, took me ages to get it running.... I had to do it
manually all the way long! $%&§!
So if these machines don't need to run X, go for it, otherwise, make sure to
use a weekend to get it running (if your're not familiar with X) and make
sure to track/write down your changes, so that you don't have to deal with
the same problems over and over again.....
BTW, I gave it up after my x server crashed several times for no reason, I'm
just using it as an internal apache webserver right now :-/
Greets,
Simmel
Ps.: Another tip, I had a cable from another even older HP workstation and
exchanged it with the original cable, after that I was able to insert a
second 2 gig drive, which seems to be enough discspace..... (don't forget to
NOT terminate internally, but externaly)
P.S.: sure it has only 4 MB gfx? Hmh mine has 8? well, could be a different
chip on there
