No sorry.

When I prit out of Mozilla 1.6-2 on Debian Unstable, the page is full
of little squares.  (more rectangular)

The print preview looks fine.

Like you, Firebird does it nicely.  As well as Konqueror.

Galeon shows the same problem.

Nothing in Edit > Preferences of Mozilla seems relevant.

Install the package "xprt-xprintorg" (see
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/x11/xprt-xprintorg) and printing
should work then... :)

You need two.
I'm not sure if one is a dependency of the other and it gets dragged in during install, but just in case, 'xprt-common' applies also.
