You probably really need the newer e100 driver.

The e100 is included in the 2.4.20 and later kernels.  Could you try
using the ~blade kernel?

The bootbf24.iso I have used previously with great success, was 2.4.20
and included the e100 driver.  It is a very small netinstall download
at 32MB.
