Forget everything you think you know about computers.  Linux is
nothing like Windows and having extensive Windows experience will make
learning Linux harder than being totally new to computers now that you
only have Windows, bajillion flavors of Unix, and the three people who
refuse to let non-unix MacOS versions die.  That being said, learning
Linux sooner rather than later will make it easier.

You probably have a piece of shit sound card that can only play one
stream at a time.  Tell XMMS to use ARTS or get a real sound card.
