Any idea how to fix ?
4 minutes to read a 1.44MB floppy? That was dog slow even in 1990.
Have you looked in /var/log/syslog?
here is th syslog with the time-gap even 5 minutes :
Nov 2 16:43:16 deba init: Switching to runlevel: 6
....
Nov 2 16:43:20 deba lwresd[201]: shutting down
Nov 2 16:43:20 deba lwresd[199]: exiting
Nov 2 16:43:20 deba kernel: Kernel logging (proc) stopped.
Nov 2 16:43:20 deba kernel: Kernel log daemon terminating.
Nov 2 16:43:20 deba exiting on signal 15
Nov 2 16:48:21 deba syslogd 1.4.1#10: restart.
Did you hear the FDD clicking
and whining like it there's a bad sector on the disk?
there is no noise like bad sectors ...
