Hi,

I just installed a fresh debian (sid) with 2.6.0 and alsa. The problem
is that whenever I try to play a wave file I get this error:

gullevek@debian-test:~$ aplay -D /dev/dsp0 applause.wav
ALSA lib pcm.c:1906:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM /dev/dsp0
aplay: main:503: audio open error: No such file or directory

I can use any device I get always the same error. The compiled in
soundcard drives must be the right one, because Alsa initialises the
devices (visible in dmesg & in aplay -l):

gullevek@debian-test:~$ aplay -l

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****

I installed alsa-base and alsa-utils and created the devices with
/usr/share/alsa-base/snddevice. I added my user to the audio group, all
the devices are rw-rw---- root, audio.

in google I can find exaclty two entries to this problem, but none of
them looks like this.

I have a running 2.6.0/alsa, but with gentoo and a ES1988 Allegro-1
soundcard.

Any kind of tips, helps are appriciated.
