You need to compile in support for PCMCIA and your NIC, or build them as
modules and load them.  Consult kernel docs and PCMCMIA HOWTOs for more
information.

How about posting the specific message?

Commands useful for debugging NIC issues:

    # dmesg               # output kernel ring buffer messages, often includes
                          # hardware detection notes.
    # cat /var/log/dmesg  # as above, but from boot time.
    # lsmod               # list current modules
    # modprobe <mdoule>   # load a module (and its deps)
    # /etc/modules        # module configuration
    # /usr/src/*/Documentation # Kernel documentation.
    # ifconfig            # list currently active network interfaces
