Re: Bootup Freezes - Still Need Help
Responders have suggested this might be a hardware problem but I don't
see why. I downloaded the latest debian kernel-source-2.4.22 and
complied a new kernel. I still have the freeze on bootup problem. The
point in the bootup process where this occurs seems to be random.
I can recover by booting an alternate kernel. I have four choices:
vmlinuz-2.2.19-compact on the harddrive, bbc-2.1 on a cd,
Knoppix_V3.3-2003-11-14-en and Rettungs-CD business card I ordered from
Germany. It is generally sufficient to simply boot up with one of
these, do nothing and re-boot to the kernel-image-2.4.22.
Once I have successfully booted to kernel-image-2.4.22 everything works
normally. Shutdowns look normal.
Is it possible that the shutdown is not normal and leaves problem that
affects the next re-boot of kernel-2.4.22 but not the other debian
kernels?
Tom
