fwiw, this is essentially what happened to me when I installed
recently, before I'd got everything put into place.  It does appear
that it's all working but is yet to be configured to your liking.

Where'd the mail go?  Dunno.  Do you have a ~/Mail directory?  is
anything in it?  I'm not sure where my first batch went either, and I
saw it flying by after "fetchmail -v".  Since then:

  - fix your ~/.forward (procmail needs this; man procmail tells you
    what should be in it)

  - tell mutt to look in ~/Mail
