Which kernel? which branch, stable, etc?

patching is something that is done to the source code, you will still
need to recompile. Here are some instructions I wrote up, they are for
woody, if you are trying to do this in unstable, you will need to be
braver than I and feel ok with patching the patches. My advice, get the
kernel-source and freeswan patch from woody and then just follow the
instructions.
