linux 2.6 & apt-get

i'm sure that i'm not the first to experience this but i can't find any info
about this on the net.

here's my problem:
i'm running debian sid (up2date, did a dist-upgrade from kernel 2.4) with
kernel 2.6. everything works fine except for apt-get which gives me following
error on install/upgrade/dist-upgrade:
E: Couldn't determine free space in /var/cache/apt/archives/ - statvfs (75
Value too large for defined data type)

as said before i've been looking around the net, upgraded debian with a 2.4
kernel, even did a source compile of libc. i'm trying to get this working now
for at least 2 weeks with no success, so any help would be great.

thanks,
martin
