Re: moving boot drive around and lilo

That installs lilo! yay!
Of course now I have a new problem.
When I reboot I get:

LI

So I changed lilo.conf from:
disk=/dev/hde
bios=0x80
boot=/dev/hda
root=/dev/hde1

to:
#disk=/dev/hde
#bios=0x80
boot=/dev/hda
root=/dev/hde1

and now I get:
LILO 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01

until I reboot it.

Any ideas what could be causing either of those problems?

thx,
james

You moved the drive from /dev/hda to /dev/hde , meaning that the
physical location of the disk on your IDE chain has changed, right?

So, um, why boot=/dev/hda rather than boot=/dev/hde?

Because I thought that boot= indicates where you want the boot
loader to be installed? Shouldn't I install the boot loader
on my first drive? if i don't have it there then my system
just hangs and does nothing at all after it displays cpu, memory
etc (standard bios screen). My drive at hda was completely
blank when i put it there so it had no mbr. should i run
lilo twice, once for hda and then once for hde?
