What happens if instead of the above, you run
chroot /mnt /sbin/lilo
My understanding is that this will treat /mnt as / in all ways,
including using /mnt/etc/lilo.conf for the configuration.
Unless you need to share ultra-sensitive super-spy stuff with me, please
