..chances are most people will want an automatic tool like 'preconnect 
mailfilter in ~/.fetchmailrc' for the bulk of the job, and smm for the
tweak jobs, checking their mailfilter rules, metered dial-up's is
usually metered by the _time_ spent online and not by bandwidth usage.

..my _impression_ is ssm is really a reimplementation of 'mutt \
pop3://your.pop3.server.at.your.isp', with a nice gui added.
