Ok well you won't need to modprobe the module if you compiled the support into the kernel, you only need that if you compiled emu10k1 as a seperate module. I'm pretty sure you need to use the OSS driver in xmms. The biggest problem I always have with setting up sound in debian is that I forget to add myself to the audio group. You have to edit the file /etc/group and change the line: audio:x:29: to something like audio:x:29:bijan,alex,fariba,reza where you would replace bijan alex fariba and reza, with the users you want to be able to use audio. You then need to log out and log back in. I never appreciated this until one time when my friend didn't realize he was logged into my computer and played a song at full volume in the wrong xterm in the middle of the night...
