"w3nt to the control panel to install hardware"... I think the OP's
one of those misdirected windoze users who find the list through
google and don't know what "Debian" means. The error messages look
windozy too.

OP: Are you in fact running the Debian GNU/Linux system? If not, I'm
afraid you've asked the wrong list. If you don't know, you're not.
