The latest stable Kernel from kernel.org is 2.4.21. The latest stable
kernel in Woody is 2.4.18.

If you want to use the latest stable Kernel from Woody, use apt-get.
Do apt-cache search kernel-image and use apt-cache show packagename to
find out more. There is a 2.4.18 install kernel (2.4.18-bf2.4) as well
as kernel images built for specific architectures (386, 586, 686, k6,
k7). Please don't use the images from Woody CDs or the official servers
as they have security issues. Instead, make sure the
security.debian.org server is in your sources.list so you can get the
fixed versions from there. Except for the bf kernel, the fixed versions
are called kernel-image-2.4.18-1-386|586tsc|686|k6|k7|686smp (note the
additional -1 in the name).

For example, if you use an AMD Athlon system, you can do
apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.18-1-k7

If you want to use the kernel from kernel.org, you can use
kernel-package to make a .deb with your custom kernel. However, I think
2.4.21 from kernel.org has some security problems.

Get the latest version from nvidia.com. You can find the driver easily
on their web site. It is one file called NVIDIA_something.run (don't
know exactly). You need to make it executable and then run it as root
(or run /bin/sh /path/to/NVIDIA_something.run). I described the
procedure in a message in the "Problem with X" thread.
