I take it the 1020 isn't supported directly out of the package?

Where did you place the .ppd file?  When you used the localhost:631
interface to set it up was the ppd file recognized?  Did you test the ppd
file for errors?  'cupstestppd /etc/cups/ppd/name_of_file.ppd'

You might consider running cupsd in debug mode (in the conf file) and
looking at the output for clues...

I don't recall what the packages do in setup, but you might check whether
/etc/printcap correctly points to /var/run/cups/printcap.
