The first time I got it to work, I used knoppix to boot, then copied the
/etc/X11 directory to the hard drive.
I finally did manage to get xfree installed, xfree86 (look through
dselect to make sure, read the descriptions for the xservers), and keep
tinkering with the"apt-reconfigure xfree86 ( I think)".
The hard drive finally died, so I'm waiting for the replacement. :-(
Once I get the hard drive from UPS, I'll be installing again, and I'll
have the steps written down.
