I don't know how much of a help is this, but do you know how stable that
machine may be?
I don't recall getting a dbootstrap error myself, but I got one strange
experience with an OpenBSD install. Part of the hard drive was beyond
help even when it's reading, and after some executable was written on
it, it started giving me strange segmentation faults. I only found out
when I checked the logs.
You might be able to check out the logs by changing the consoles (either
Alt-F* or Ctrl-Alt-F*) and you'll find out that have some kind of logs
there. It might help
