Hi, i've got this small samba problem to which google can't seem to give me the solution. The fact is samba was configured/working properly but since an apt-get dist-upgrade, there seems to be a little problem. valid users can't seem to access their homedirecotories anymore, /var/log/log.smbd contains
the following error message. So what is an idmap, how do i create one, ....

[2003/05/26 07:12:29, 1] sam/idmap_tdb.c:db_idmap_init(331)
idmap gid range missing or invalid
idmap will be unable to map foreign SIDs

I am getting the same from a recent upgrade for Samba from SID. I managed to restore a few (haven't tried all of them) client connections by re-generating the appropriate line in the /etc/samba/smbpasswd file... I.E. I removed the original "user" with "smbpasswd -x [username]" and added it in again with "smbpasswd -a [username]". This cleared up the problem with client logins. Dunno about the error message about "idmap"... I have it too and it still seems to be present, although as I said, I have NOT "updated" all my user's smbpasswd entries yet. I only have 2 and one of them never logs in .... <grin> No pressure to be quick ;)

I know this falls into the "voodoo magic" category, but I HTH.

Cheers,
