Re: How to tell APT i've got emacs already



Hi Isaac,
not sure this is the best answer but its one way.
dpkg will allow you to install packages that apt-get wont.
so you need to download the DEB package and 
dpkg -i /path/to/deb/gettext-el_version.deb
you may also need the --force option like --force-depends
