upgraded to 2.4 "/etc/modules is more recent..." error message

Hi everyone,

I had a woody default 2.2 kernel installation which I upgraded to kernel 2.4
by doing the following

apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.18-686

I configured /etc/lilo.conf and rebooted the computer.

during the boot process I get the following error message:
/etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.4.18-686/modules.dep

I tried running "update-modules" and "depmod -a" as suggested by another
post, but that did not fix the problem.

is this not a valid way of upgrading the kernel? am I missing a step?

any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Torel
