While processing the message, your MTA finds a syntax error in the headers, and passes fetchmail an error code. The MTA does not forward on the message. fetchmail sees the error and as the message was not successfully delivered, it does not delete the message from the POP3 server. Consequently, fetchmail reattempts the delivery of those messages on subsequent runs, until the message is removed, or the condition that caused the error is rectified.
