Slow connection
I just installed Debian on a Pentium 450 with 90 megs of ram. It has a
NetGear FA311 NIC. I added the natsemi module when installing.
Everything seems to work except that connections crawl at super low
speeds. I also have a win box on my LAN, and when downloading the same
resource, the winbox will zip through at 60 Kbps but the Debian box will
plod along at 200 B/s and timeout on large files. Even transfers from the
winbox to the Debian box go at these speeds.
It seems like the initial throughput is decently high but then it slows to
a crawl very quickly.
Everything else on the box zips along just fine, so the system has about as
much speed as you would expect. I'm not sure what the deal is.
I checked the physical connection on the NIC and the cables. They're fine
as far as I can tell.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to remedy this? Thanks much.
