When you open gimp, you've got a window with the title "The GIMP", in that
window, clikc File>New...
to open a new drawing area. Then in the same window click a tool that has a
rectangle (with doted lines). Go to the drawing area. Click the left mouse
button and drag to get your rectangle size (you should see a rectangular
shape with dotted lines spinning). Now go to The GIMP window again and click
on a Paint Bucket,
then go back to the drawing area and click on the middle. You should now
have a black rectangle (to save it, use right mouse button on the drawing
area).

hi,
i know this sounds stupid .. but can anyone tell me of a way to draw a
simple rectangle in Gimp. i mean there should be a button somewhere which
would just allow me to drag the mouse from one corner to the other and make
a rectangle joining all found corners.
