If you're using gpm (console-based mouse driver), run "gpmconfig" and set the repeat to "raw" and the device to "/dev/input/mice", then run "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" and set the mouse to "/dev/gpmdata".

If you're not using gpm, run "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" and set the mouse to "/dev/input/mice".
