After you install new kernel, you have to rerun lilo.

If you have installation CD or floppy, you should be able boot from
that. If not, you could maybe download tomsrtbt from
http://www.toms.net/rb/ and create floppy to boot from; the tomsrtbt
FAQ has instructions on how to run program like lilo using chroot. Or
follow instructions at
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/reference/ch-tips.en.html#s-dead-lilo
