getmail error after dist-upgrade to sid

hi folks

after a fairly smooth dist-upgrade so sid (at least I think it was
smooth -- haven't seen what the system looks like locally, everything
I've done thus far over ssh works), I find that getmail can't actually
retrieve mail from my POP acount anymore:

getmail started for matt.price@mailbox126.utcc.utoronto.ca:110
  POP3 greeting:  +OK POP3 bureau10.utcc.utoronto.ca v2000.70 server ready
  Configuration error (server does not support APOP) (matt.price@mailbox126.utcc.utoronto.ca:110)
Resetting connection and aborting (Configuration error (server does not support APOP) (matt.price@mailbox126.utcc.utoronto.ca:110))
getmail finished for matt.price@mailbox126.utcc.utoronto.ca:110

anyone know what this is about? I tried setting use_apop to 0 in my
getmailrc, but that didn't help.  Is the sid package configured in
some importantly differnet way from the woody package?
