Re: debian install

I encountered a similar problem when installing woody for the first time
using the 7 cd set. Could not just start X. However my problem was to do
with lacking i810 display drivers. Painstaking examination of the log files
unearthed the root cause.
I used cd 1 of 7 to install without foreknowledge that cd 1 of 7 puts into
service kernel 2.2.20-idepci with a limited set of drivers (only ide & pci).
Had I used the other cds (2,3, 4 or 5) to boot, I probably wouldn't have
experienced any difficulties.
My problem was resolved by installing and loading the necessary 2.2.20
driver modules present in one of the cds. The need to get ext3 journaling
filesystem working made me move to kernel 2.4.18-i686 which installed with
all necessary driver modules.
Although I found debian to be difficult at first, I just kept on trying and
struggled to resolve all issues one at a time. Today I even have KDE 3.1 and
Gnome2.2 neatly installed. Don't give up.
