Looks like you failed to read the instructions. The 2.4.x kernel images
use initrd images to provide access to the modules necessary to mount
the root file system. If you're using lilo, you need to edit the
configuration to include a line like:
initrd=/initrd.img
In your main kernel image stanza. Then rerun lilo.
